Automatic Drains

Author: Kathleen Chester

An automatic drain is used for discharging the accumulations of condensable and unwanted foreign materials from a pneumatic system. The principal constituent of an automatic drain is a drain valve, which consist of a reservoir. The reservoir has an inlet and outlet for the entry and exit of accumulations within the pneumatic system. For selective communication of pressurized air, there is a valve operator. It is mounted in the reservoir in such way that automatic opening and closing of the valve takes place for selective draining.

The pilot valve comprises of a sensor tube in which there is a magnetized valve plug. This magnetized valve plug helps in selectively engaging the valve seat and valve plug for making the one-way flow possible. Both the valve seat and the valve plug have a magnetic polarity. Opposite to its polarity, there is an annular magnet dispersed within the reservoir. It senses the level of the float. The entire action is based on the opposite polarity of these two magnets, so that discharge can easily pass out in one direction after entering from the other direction. As the level of the water increases and decreases, the float, immersed in water, successively rises and falls.

The main functions of these automatic drains are freeze protection capability, longer watering season, faster winterization, easy method of installation, and guaranteed performance. There are automatic wings for easy installation and a dirt stopper screen is provided with it. There is a patented recessed wicking pad and patented ball valve which creates turbulent flashing action, installed in the automatic drain. Products obtained from a genuine source don?t burst usually. In case you are concerned with lesser water consumption, offsetting drainage by shortening cycles in just a minute?s time is the best option.
